Last year I hiked the northern stretch of the Green Ridge Trail. Today I hiked the next section south of that.
I started my hike where Green Ridge Trail #4025 crosses Road 600 near Green Ridge Lookout.
The trail headed south through a forest of Douglas fir and ponderosa pine:
I saw a few wildflowers:
Crews haven’t come through yet to clear downed trees from last winter:
The trail made a gradual descent and at half a mile crossed Road 600. At 0.8 miles the map shows that the trail starts following the route of Road 627. It didn’t look to me like it had ever been a road and it certainly isn’t now.
Half a mile after crossing 600 I reached an open sagebrush area with views through burnt snags.
Mt. Jefferson:
Three Fingered Jack:
Mt. Washington:
Part of the Three Sisters:
The trail continued south and at 1.9 miles I met up with Road 300 coming in from the left. The trail now followed 300 as it turned south:
The trail passed through an open meadow area with some partial views:
At 3.3 miles I reached Road 930 and continued a little bit further. At the 3.7 mile mark I turned around headed back to my car.
Nice stretch of trail for May and June, but I wouldn’t want to be here in the heat!
Gaia stats: 7.3 miles, 450′ elevation gain
