I visited Coffin Mountain today, the first of THREE hikes I squeezed in on this cloudy Saturday.
The flowers were diverse and abundant right from the start.
I love this spot where the trail passes between two large trees:
Beargrass don’t bloom in profusion every year. The last time was 2019, but this year there were only a few:
View of Mt. Jefferson from the meadow:
The fire lookout came into view:
Made it! The lookout wasn’t being staffed yet:
Helicopter pad on the summit:
View of Bachelor Mountain and Mt. Jefferson:
View of Three Fingered Jack, Mt. Washington, and the Three Sisters:

View to the north with unnamed peak 5517 in the foreground and distant Mt. Hood at right:
Even Mt. Adams in Washington was visible!
After poking around the north end of the summit I walked out to the other end:
Looking back at the lookout, with Mt. Adams and Mt. Hood on the left:
Hiking back down:
More wildflowers!
This is one of Oregon’s best wildflower hikes and it never disappoints. I wished it hadn’t been so cloudy, but at least I had views.
