Today we did the hike to Hart’s Cove on the Oregon Coast. After driving to the end of the road on Cascade Head we parked at the trailhead there. There was one other car when we arrived at 9:30, although two more showed up shortly thereafter.
Yesterday’s beautiful weather was gone and we were socked-in
The trail is all downhill, switchbacking down through the forest for 0.8 miles before crossing Cliff Creek:
The trail was very muddy:
We crossed Chitwood Creek at the two mile mark. The bridge was out but we found a way across:
At 2.7 miles the trail turned left out of the forest and headed down through an open meadow with Salmonberry:
We descended through the meadow to a viewpoint of Hart’s Cove where we could see Chitwood Creek falling into the ocean:
We stayed here for a break and a snack and then headed back, passing dozens and dozens of people hiking in as we hiked out.
Gaia stats: 5.8 miles, 1,000′ elevation gain
