It’s unclear exactly when this happened, but at some point in the last year the rest of the lookout on Abbott Butte has collapsed. The lookout was included inside the boundary of the Rogue-Umpqua Divide Wilderness in 1984 and had been abandoned for awhile. The cabin was still intact as recently as 2015, when someone posted this trip report from a hike up there. Sometime after 2015 the cabin collapsed, although the tower itself remained standing. In November 2021 it was reported on Facbeook that the tower was still standing. The owner of the geocache up there reported in last month that the tower had finally collapsed (photo).
