Type: 30′ tower
Visited: June 11, 2022
The third lookout I visited today was Table Mountain. I parked at the gate and started walking:
Very soon the numerous communications towers started coming into view:
The old lookout tower still stands, surrounded by a fence at the base and serving as a platform for several pieces of equipment:
The clouds prevented far-reaching views but I wasn’t socked-in either:
The base of Mt. Shasta:
Distinctive Pilot Rock:
From Table Mountain Road turn onto an unmarked spur, drive 0.2 miles, and park in the turnout before the gate. From there it’s 0.2 miles up to lookout
A 30′ lookout tower was built on Table Mountain in 1931. In 1958 it was replaced by a different 30′ tower.
It’s unclear when it stopped being staffed, but the lookout has been abandoned for decades.
