Type: 82′ tower with L4 cab
Status: Staffed
Elevation: 5,229′
Visited: October 16, 2021
I parked on Road 62 and walked past the locked gate on Road 370:
The larches along 370 were beautiful:
After 0.4 miles of walking the road I reached the summit:
The lookout is staffed in summer but was all closed up for the season. Even with no one there, they still don’t want visitors going up the tower, I guess:
It was a gorgeous fall day, but VERY VERY windy. I took one last shot before heading back down:
strong>Directions
The turnoff for Lookout Mountain is off of Road 62, just south of its intersection with Road 6413. Turn east on Road 370 and follow it 0.4 miles to the summit. This road has a gate at its intersection with 62; if that gate is closed there is a wide spot to park on 62 and you can hike up Road 370 to the lookout.

History
A 60′ tower was built here in 1935:
That tower was replaced in 1948 with an 82′ tower, pictured here in 1956:
This is the tower that still stands today, although in 2004 the cab was removed and lowered by crane, refurbished, and put back on the tower.
