In the heart of the Bull of the Woods Wilderness is an abandoned lookout that was built in 1942. I hiked there via the Pansy Lake Trail on a beautiful Sunday. The mosquitoes were fierce, but there were some lovely wildflowers at the summit and some spectacular views. Unfortunately the lookout is looking a little worse for wear. I know that the Wilderness Manager for the Mt. Hood National Forest is strongly opposed to the presence of any structures in designated wilderness, so I’m guessing she would oppose any efforts to maintain this place, unfortunately.
