Type: 60′ tower
Status: Abandoned
Elevation: 5,218 feet

Our last lookout stop on our Wallowa vacation was Goodman Ridge. It was a long drive up Road 31 (Skyline Road) to get here! We parked on Road 3128 and walked up the spur to the lookout, although that spur does look drivable.
This 60′ tower was built in 1936 and is not in great shape these days. It has been abandoned by the Forest Service and isn’t receiving any maintenance. The cab blew off the top in the winter of 2007-2008.
Then in 2009 fire crews burned down the ground cabin, although I’m unsure what the reason was. Perhaps it was in such bad shape that they decided to burn it for practice rather than just tear it down?
It was a little cloudy when we visited, but we still had a nice view to the east.
Who knows how much longer this tower will last. I’m glad we visited when we did.
