Update: This area was burned in the 2024 Battle Mountain Complex and the structure was destroyed.
While we were in the area we visited Ant Hill today. We parked on Road 180 walked up abandoned Road 182 to the summit:

There’s an old deteriorating platform up here. ‘m skeptical that it was ever used for fire detection, but it’s origins, date of construction, and use are unknown:





This is a nice time of year to visit here, as there were wildflowers blooming:

In 1933 a 20′ pole tower was built on Ant Hill:

It was removed in 1956. The wooden platform that stands there now has an unknown history. It may or may not have been used for fire detection.
In 2024, a few months after I visited this spot, the area burned in the 2024 Battle Mountain Complex and the structure was destroyed.
