It was a long drive up Road 31 (Skyline Road) to get here! We parked on Road 3128 and walked up the spur to the lookout, although that spur does look drivable.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/cheryl_hill\/8026840531\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8040\/8026840531_f682b62696_z.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"425\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This 60&#8242; tower was built in 1936 and is not in great shape these days. It has been abandoned by the Forest Service and isn&#8217;t receiving any maintenance. The cab blew off the top in the winter of 2007-2008.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/cheryl_hill\/8026840416\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8313\/8026840416_b66811cbc1_z.jpg\" width=\"425\" height=\"640\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Then in 2009 fire crews burned down the ground cabin, although I&#8217;m unsure what the reason was. Perhaps it was in such bad shape that they decided to burn it for practice rather than just tear it down?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/cheryl_hill\/8026840719\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8456\/8026840719_57038f7e03_z.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"425\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It was a little cloudy when we visited, but we still had a nice view to the east.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/cheryl_hill\/8026840684\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8036\/8026840684_d8f744f90f_z.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"223\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Who knows how much longer this tower will last.
