The first was Point Prominence on the west side of the Wallowa Mountains. Road 6220 and the spur road to the summit were both in atrocious shape. I would not call this a gravel road since gravel is not the size of baseballs!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8455\/8023692274_f2474a6eab_z.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"425\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It got bad enough that I parked the Outback at the base of the spur road and we walked the last stretch to the top.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8182\/8023558352_05416aba4e_z.jpg\" width=\"425\" height=\"640\" \/><\/p>\n<p>First we visited the site where the first lookout from 1931 used to stand.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/cheryl_hill\/8023560087\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8309\/8023560087_9fa85eae25.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"332\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The we wandered over to where the 1954 lookout was constructed.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/cheryl_hill\/8023558786\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Point Prominence Lookout\" src=\"http:\/\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8039\/8023558786_02810d274d_z.jpg\" width=\"425\" height=\"640\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This lookout is still staffed in summer.
