The last stretch of access road is gated and we had to walk the final half-mile to the lookout.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/cheryl_hill\/8035772821\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Fire lookout\" src=\"http:\/\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8180\/8035772821_3e88f828f5_z.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"425\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The 1957 tower is part of the rental program, although no one was staying there when we visited. It&#8217;s available for rent year-round since it&#8217;s only about a three-mile trek through the snow from the nearest sno park in winter.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/cheryl_hill\/8035774180\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Fivemile Butte fire lookout\" src=\"http:\/\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8309\/8035774180_8ef38b6c2e_z.jpg\" width=\"431\" height=\"640\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We were able to climb the staircase of the tower but a locked grate kept us from accessing the the catwalk.
