Greg and I drove up Mt. Pisgah last weekend to see the 1964 lookout there. Road 2630, the access road, is pretty rough and it took us 30 minutes to drive 6.2 miles. The guy in the lookout didn’t come out and say hi. We briefly talked with a group of ATV folk who had driven up from the west (we drove up from the east). They’d had to navigate a giant mudhole in the road and wondered how our car had made it through until we told them we’d taken a different way up.<\/p>\n

In 1918 a 10′ platform was built on Mt. Pisgah:<\/p>\n

It was replaced by a 35′ platform and accompanying cabin in 1923. The first two photos below show the construction:<\/p>\n

A cab was constructed atop the tower in 1929. Interestingly the photo shows that the cab has no windows on at least two sides:<\/p>\n

The present 20′ R-6 tower was built in 1964 right next to the old tower, which was then removed:<\/p>\n
