Although we&#8217;ve been to this area several times we had not visited this lookout or stayed in it yet.<\/p>\n<p>Road 141 is a one-mile spur road that heads up to the summit. It is gated, but renters get the code to open the gate:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/cheryl_hill\/55385480269\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55385480269_a29fb416e2_c.jpg\" alt=\"Lake of teh Woods Lookout\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The road is in decent shape, although there were a few rocky parts where I was glad to have high clearance. We parked at the big intersection at the gate and hiked down the abandoned Road 090. It was smooth sailing at first:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/cheryl_hill\/55407351102\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55407351102_ca1b65e1b2_c.jpg\" alt=\"Lake of the Woods Lookout\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/cheryl_hill\/55409482279\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55409482279_a9a0bf1ee1_c.jpg\" alt=\"Lake of the Woods Lookout\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Then it wasn&#8217;t:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/cheryl_hill\/55408482754\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55408482754_85d4230752_c.jpg\" alt=\"Lake of the Woods Lookout\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;lake&#8221; is little more than a buggy pond that was rapidly drying up. I have no idea why someone thought this was worthy of getting a name:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/cheryl_hill\/55408382888\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55408382888_a3f560344a_c.jpg\" alt=\"Lake of the Woods Lookout\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/cheryl_hill\/55408376123\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55408376123_88ff259af1_c.jpg\" alt=\"Lake of the Woods Lookout\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A few things to note if you rent Lake of the Woods:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Our Verizon signal here was virtually non-existent. We got a few texts out, but couldn&#8217;t load weather or anything using data.<\/li>\n<li>Four of the windows have screens so you can let in a breeze without letting in bugs.<\/li>\n<li>At the time of our visit there were no pots or pans present. There were disposable plastic spoons and paper plates.<\/li>\n<li>According to a sign on the lookout there was no lightening protection.<\/li>\n<li>The lookout has a gas stovetop but no oven.<\/li>\n<li>There is no woodstove or heat source.<\/li>\n<li>Views to south and north are mostly blocked by trees.<\/li>\n<li>Past logbooks had been removed.<\/li>\n<li>The catwalk doesn\u2019t lock so if someone hikes up you could have visitors. The door, does lock.<\/li>\n<li>The cabin has no chairs with backs, just benches. We were glad we brought our camp chairs.<\/li>\n<li>There was only half a roll of toilet paper and we were glad we brought some with us.<\/li>\n<li>Despite the array of bug sprays present, we had no bug issues.<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t bring a car whose paint you care about.
