Because the state is in a drought numerous wildfires were ignited. A series of fires called the Rowe Creek Complex burning on the north side of the Ochoco Mountains has claimed the fire lookout on Stephenson Mountain. This lookout was built in 1963 and was located on private land and inaccessible to the public, but was still staffed.
