A road goes to the summit&#8211;which is within a 78-acre parcel of state land&#8211;but because it&#8217;s almost entirely surrounded by Georgia Pacific land, the public can&#8217;t drive up there. So I hiked 3.8 miles of logging roads to reach the summit. There was an alidade and likely a cabin for living quarters. In 1920 a D-6 cupola was built.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/oregonlookouts.weebly.com\/green-peter.html\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/oregonlookouts.weebly.com\/uploads\/1\/5\/9\/1\/1591048\/preparing-to-build-green-peter-lookout-1920-photo-by-shelby-duncan_orig.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nConstruction in 1920<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/oregonlookouts.weebly.com\/green-peter.html\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/oregonlookouts.weebly.com\/uploads\/1\/5\/9\/1\/1591048\/green-peter-as-it-looked-when-built-in-1920-photo-taken-1957-dave-schmidt-in-doorway_orig.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n1957<\/p>\n<p>In 1970 that lookout was removed and a 14&#215;14 L-4 cabin was built using repurposed material from the Jordan Lookout near Scio, and Swamp Mountain Lookout southeast of Sweet Home.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/oregonlookouts.weebly.com\/green-peter.html\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/oregonlookouts.weebly.com\/uploads\/1\/5\/9\/1\/1591048\/carrie-at-green-peter-lookout-1971_orig.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n1971<\/p>\n<p>The roof was replaced in 2000, and the lookout was overhauled in 2004. It was torn down to the studs and dry rot was removed. Windows, siding, shutters, trim, catwalk, trim, guard rails, and the door were replaced.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54565749249_79a9cc5207.jpg\" alt=\"Green_Peter_c2004a\" width=\"500\" height=\"376\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54565567226_146a3e4f88.jpg\" alt=\"Green_Peter_c2004b\" width=\"500\" height=\"376\" \/><\/p>\n<p>According to <em>Oregon Geographic Names<\/em>, &#8220;peter&#8221; was sometimes applied to high points that were rocky at the top and bare of timber.
