It was a gloomy November day on that visit, and since I was back in the area again on a nice summer day, I made a return trip.<\/p>\n<p>I parked at the gate and started hiking up the road:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/53822019390_47198094a4_b.jpg\" alt=\"Round Mountain Hike\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/53822019370_a4f447aabb_b.jpg\" alt=\"Round Mountain Hike\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This sign is wrong:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/53821590441_4fb6b7fa89_b.jpg\" alt=\"Round Mountain Hike\" width=\"1024\" height=\"684\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A peek through the trees looking south at distant Walker Mountain and Ringo Butte, with Wikiup Reservoir:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/53821590401_3a3aaa4b6f_b.jpg\" alt=\"Round Mountain Hike\" width=\"1024\" height=\"684\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Another peek through the trees, looking southwest at distant snowy Mt. Bailey poking up, and Cowhorn Mountain at center:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/53821925894_24ff1836dd_b.jpg\" alt=\"Round Mountain Hike\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When I reached the summit, I wandered around taking photos. Joey the lookout came out to say hi, and I learned that he was acting as relief lookout for his wife who works here. Also notice all the ticks in the first photo!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/53820710382_2a5f341bff_b.jpg\" alt=\"Round Mountain\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/53820710237_7ac5c1030f_b.jpg\" alt=\"Round Mountain\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/53821627611_605c52f55f_b.jpg\" alt=\"Round Mountain\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There was a lovely patch of penstemon growing on the summit:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/53821840617_7346659d9d_b.jpg\" alt=\"Round Mountain\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Nice to return on a clear day and get all the great views!<\/p>\n<p>Update: On July 16, less than a month after my hike up here, this lookout was threatened by a lightning-ignited wildfire that started on the mountain.
