After visiting Red Hill I drove over to visit this lookout. Although commonly referred to as Buckhorn Mountain, I can find no information about this point being officially called that. Nowadays it is known as Buckhorn Overlook and is a tourist stop for a view of the Imnaha River:<\/p>\n

It was cloudy during my visit but I could see the Seven Devils in Idaho:<\/p>\n

And the Wallowa Mountains to the southeast:<\/p>\n

Both the lookout and garage still stand, but they are slowly crumbling:<\/p>\n

Directions<\/strong><\/p>\n

From Enterprise drive east on Highway 82 for 3.5 miles, then turn left on Crow Creek Road. After five miles Crow Creek Road swings north and you’ll stay straight on Zumwalt Road. About 23 miles later this road crosses into the national forest and becomes Road 46. About 9 miles after that turn right onto Road 780. After 0.8 miles turn right on Road 810 which shortly leads to the parking area at Buckhorn Overlook.<\/p>\n

History<\/strong><\/p>\n

This site was relatively late to the lookout game in 1952 when the cabin from the tower at Fairchild Point was moved here. It has not been staffed since the 1970s.<\/p>\n
