Unlike past years when we camped nearby, this time we were too short on time for that and we stayed in a hotel in Madras.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>It was 54 degrees at the trailhead at 7:40am, but it felt hotter than that. My foot was bothering me so I decided not to go. It was actually quite pleasant sitting here listening to the birds reading my book:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52905307685_ce232202d2_c.jpg\" alt=\"Spring Basin Wilderness\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>90 minutes later Greg came back down and we headed back. For post-hike stretching and drinks and snacks we drove to the place where we normally camp while visiting the area and sat by the John Day River, which is running very high.
