It was a lovely fall trip and I decided to do it again. It served as a summer home for fire prevention guards. The front room has a kitchen with cookstove, a sink with running water, and a propane-powered fridge!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52438798322_c48f7ff17a_c.jpg\" alt=\"Short Creek Guard Station\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The cupboards and drawers are full of plates, cups, utensils, pots, etc.:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52448847122_b59ff6a9a6_c.jpg\" alt=\"Short Creek Guard Station\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The front room also includes a living room with a couch and armchair:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52439660019_55b0435ab0_c.jpg\" alt=\"Short Creek Guard Station\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52439753900_87353e1d18_c.jpg\" alt=\"Short Creek Guard Station\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The cabin was pretty clean when I arrived except that both the couch and chair were covered all over in dog hair. Yuck!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52439573644_89ef858973_c.jpg\" alt=\"Short Creek Guard Station\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The rear room has a bedroom:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52439821133_9c52e14758_c.jpg\" alt=\"Short Creek Guard Station\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s a utility room with cleaning supplies and two cots:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52450146897_11e337c1be_c.jpg\" alt=\"Short Creek Guard Station\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And &#8211; luxuries of luxuries &#8211; an indoor bathroom with a toilet and flush toilet! Very unusual:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52448847437_9c76e0d8f1_c.jpg\" alt=\"Short Creek Guard Station\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Outside is a new-looking picnic table and a fire ring:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52439297096_bbb331bd1d_c.jpg\" alt=\"Short Creek Guard Station\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Although I was surrounded by trees I could still see stars at night. This is a LONG way from any major light pollution and the stars were amazing:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52441043468_3030997f02_c.jpg\" alt=\"Starry skies at Short Creek Guard Station\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52446591068_09b87ce848_c.jpg\" alt=\"Short Creek Guard Station at night\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Some things to know if you go:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The road to get here is paved and doable in any vehicle.<\/li>\n<li>Unlike most Forest Service cabin rentals this cabin has plumbing. There&#8217;s a shower, flush toilet, and sink in the bathroom. The kitchen has a sink as well.<\/li>\n<li>Propane powers the living room heater, refrigerator, cookstove, and lamps. I had no trouble with any of these appliances during my stay.<\/li>\n<li>The windows have screens so you can open the windows without letting bugs in. However neither the front door nor the back entrances have screen doors.<\/li>\n<li>There is a fire pit outside, but firewood is not provided. Bring your own.<\/li>\n<li>This cabin is right by the road but there is a locked gate at the start of the short driveway so people can&#8217;t drive in and bother you at night.
