It is sometimes referred to as Onion Camp, although the Forest Service calls it the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fs.usda.gov\/recarea\/rogue-siskiyou\/recreation\/recarea\/?recid=70566\">Kalmiopsis Rim Trailhead<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/51265054468_119e24d3af_c.jpg\" alt=\"Kalmiopsis Rim Trailhead\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This is the view north from the trailhead: Whetstone Butte, Pearsoll Peak, and Gold Basin Butte:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/51264129562_2f44b39f04_c.jpg\" alt=\"View from Kalmiopsis Rim Trailhead\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Zoomed-in on Pearsoll Peak, which I hiked yesterday:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/51265055123_e8896ca681_c.jpg\" alt=\"View of Pearsoll Peak from Kalmiopsis Rim Trailhead\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I set off up the trail. The ammo can survived the fire four years ago, as did its contents. Then I headed back to the car before the day became too hot. Descending:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/51264152167_41689f6b73_c.jpg\" alt=\"Eagle Mountain Hike\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p>From Eagle Gap it was quite a slog ascending uphill along Whetstone Butte:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/51264883911_b6710cf308_c.jpg\" alt=\"Eagle Mountain Hike\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A butterfly photo-bombed my pentstemon and made it better:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/51265082618_fbc2509df2_c.jpg\" alt=\"Eagle Mountain Hike\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I never saw another hiker all day, nor another car at the trailhead.
