After our weekend camping in the Ochocos we made a bit of a detour to hike Chimney Rock before heading home.<\/p>\n

The drive down Highway 27 along the Crooked River was quite scenic. We parked at the trailhead and started hiking up the trail under the blazing hot sun:<\/p>\n

Hello, little lizard:<\/p>\n

We could see the Chimney Rock Campground below on the other side of the highway:<\/p>\n

We saw some nice flowers along the way:<\/p>\n

\"Chimney<\/p>\n

\"Chimney<\/p>\n

\"Chimney<\/p>\n

Continuing to climb:<\/p>\n

\"Chimney<\/p>\n

\"Chimney<\/p>\n

Looking down the gulch we just hiked up:<\/p>\n

Traversing the slope above the gulch:<\/p>\n

At the one mile mark is a nice bench at a viewpoint with views of Mt. Bachelor and the Three Sisters:<\/p>\n

A little further down the trail Chimney Rock came into view:<\/p>\n

Crooked River down below:<\/p>\n

The trail ends at the base of the rock:<\/p>\n

Looking upstream:<\/p>\n

We found a spot in the shade of the rock with a view looking downstream and took a break:<\/p>\n

It was a hot hike back to the car as the temperatures started to soar. We didn’t linger at the trailhead and instead headed north a bit before pulling into the Palisades Campground day use area where we took a dip in the river. Man that felt good!<\/p>\n
