{"id":3241,"date":"2020-06-24T16:38:35","date_gmt":"2020-06-24T16:38:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cherylhill.net\/blog\/?p=3241"},"modified":"2020-08-13T18:48:39","modified_gmt":"2020-08-13T18:48:39","slug":"nestor-peak","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cherylhill.net\/blog\/2020\/06\/24\/nestor-peak\/","title":{"rendered":"Nestor Peak"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sunday, May 24, 2020<\/p>\n<p>Today we hiked up <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oregonhikers.org\/field_guide\/Nestor_peak_hike\">Nestor Peak<\/a> via the Buck Creek Trail in southwest Washington. <!--more-->We started at the Buck Creek Trailhead #1 where we had a nice view of Mt. Hood:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/50020735602_6fcf767f7a_c.jpg\" alt=\"Nestor Peak Hike\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The trail starts on the other side of the road, then re-crosses the road at 0.8 mile. The forest was lush and green:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/50019941618_bf96b6732b_c.jpg\" alt=\"Nestor Peak Hike\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The trail reached Road N1300 and we turned left for a 0.7 mile road hike:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/50020728722_bb62321fe2_c.jpg\" alt=\"Nestor Peak Hike\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We picked up the Buck Creek Trail again and headed up hill. We passed a random rake by the side of the trail:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/50020060598_1d5df4be32_c.jpg\" alt=\"Nestor Peak Hike\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We saw a nice patch of pinedrops:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/50020591616_87c8419f1f_c.jpg\" alt=\"Nestor Peak Hike\" width=\"533\" height=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We crossed several roads and kept climbing up, up, up through the forest. Adams:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/50040632811_5ca801bf26_c.jpg\" alt=\"Nestor Peak Hike\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p>But we could see Mt. Hood:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/50040889687_d655a29d61_c.jpg\" alt=\"Nestor Peak Hike\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/50040071603_6a27d82ba9_c.jpg\" alt=\"Nestor Peak Hike\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And the Hood River Valley:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/50040625771_a8cc08f79e_c.jpg\" alt=\"Nestor Peak Hike\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Looking northwest:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/50040075543_9439b6aaab_c.jpg\" alt=\"Nestor Peak Hike\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After taking a break we began the four mile descent back to the car. Rather than follow the last mile of trail back to the car, we road-hiked N1300 to Road N1000 and then back to the car:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/50045442351_1db4cebddd_c.jpg\" alt=\"Nestor Peak Hike\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Our total was 8.1 miles and 1,890&#8242; elevation gain. If we were to do this hike again we would park at the last road crossing, which we crossed at 2.7 miles.
