(<em>Umbellularia californica<\/em> is also known as California-laurel.) Botanically, the tree is neither a myrtle nor a laurel. The wood is easily carved and polishes like marble. Numerous gift shops in Oregon sell bowls, spoons, and other items made from myrtlewood.
