Hood and Greg drove up this morning to join me at Timberline Lodge. Even at the early hour of 7:30am it was already pretty warm. Here is Mt. Hood from the parking lot:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1822\/41650586710_4b875e5143_c.jpg\" alt=\"Paradise Park Hike\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hiking up to the TImberline Trail:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/farm1.staticflickr.com\/845\/29587745718_c3160b3a29_c.jpg\" alt=\"Paradise Park Hike\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We had a nice view of Mt. Jefferson:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1784\/28571971157_1da8469077_c.jpg\" alt=\"Paradise Park Hike\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/p>\n<p>These meadows will be full of lupine in a week or two. The day was getting quite hot:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1802\/43459259451_7a7887de2b_c.jpg\" alt=\"Paradise Park\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/p>\n<p>An American Dipper kept us company:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1766\/41650735790_6199079b07_c.jpg\" alt=\"Paradise Park Hike\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This is such a lovely spot (except for the biting flies):<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1764\/42555142195_e60d4d32ff_c.jpg\" alt=\"Paradise Park\" width=\"533\" height=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1807\/43459482381_af63a7d8a1_c.jpg\" alt=\"Paradise Park\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After hanging out by the creek for a few hours, we finally started hiking back. We could see the clouds spreading out and getting closer:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/farm1.staticflickr.com\/845\/42555134125_1895954a07_c.jpg\" alt=\"Paradise Park\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Good and cloudy now:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/farm1.staticflickr.com\/837\/41660168790_47b8cd3784_c.jpg\" alt=\"Paradise Park Hike\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A lot of trees fell last winter. We saw evidence of recent work to get them cleared and most have been taken care of, but these hadn&#8217;t yet been dealt with. This was between Zigzag Canyon and the Paradise Park loop:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1828\/41660160700_819fb7c212_c.jpg\" alt=\"Paradise Park Hike\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Descending into Zigzag Canyon:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1770\/41660156650_d796d21c40_c.jpg\" alt=\"Paradise Park Hike\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Crossing the Zigzag:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/farm1.staticflickr.com\/922\/41660152440_75898434bd_c.jpg\" alt=\"Paradise Park Hike\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/p>\n<p>At the top of the canyon:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1822\/43419517712_a0a70f8397_c.jpg\" alt=\"Paradise Park Hike\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Once you climb out of Zigzag Canyon you still have more than two miles and several hundred feet of elevation to gain before reaching the lodge. It was a long uphill trudge in the heat:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1787\/42751296694_053f45f874_c.jpg\" alt=\"Paradise Park Hike\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Little Zigzag River had been dry in the morning, but was now flowing. It was very silty:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/farm1.staticflickr.com\/922\/43419506392_739844f4f2_c.jpg\" alt=\"Paradise Park Hike\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re back!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/farm1.staticflickr.com\/836\/42751290974_363584ea3e_c.jpg\" alt=\"Paradise Park Hike\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We knew the lodge would be crawling with tourists so we went to Mt. Hood Brewing in Government Camp instead:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1805\/43467438731_d4b3c9f031_c.jpg\" alt=\"Mt. Hood Brewing\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It was a long hot day, 10.5+ miles and 2400&#8242; elevation gain. But beautiful!
