It&#8217;s pretty brown this time of year:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.staticflickr.com\/4484\/37285874706_3f624b2217_c.jpg\" alt=\"Salmon River Trail\" width=\"800\" height=\"531\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.staticflickr.com\/4430\/37076940340_0ef8ba5988_c.jpg\" alt=\"Salmon River Trail\" width=\"800\" height=\"531\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The canyon is deep and rugged here. Can you believe that there was a proposal in the 1960s to dam the river and build a highway through here? Now the river is a Wild &amp; Scenic River and this area is part of the Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.staticflickr.com\/4396\/23481551068_e36f1eeccc_c.jpg\" alt=\"Salmon River Trail\" width=\"800\" height=\"531\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.staticflickr.com\/4455\/36623710334_125ca6b74f_c.jpg\" alt=\"Salmon River Trail\" width=\"800\" height=\"531\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We sat and enjoyed a snack, although it was VERY windy here.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.staticflickr.com\/4360\/37076937620_dce9b9a845_c.jpg\" alt=\"Salmon River Trail\" width=\"800\" height=\"531\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Looking down on the viewpoint before heading back down:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.staticflickr.com\/4441\/37076929620_fe8331e513_c.jpg\" alt=\"Salmon River Trail\" width=\"800\" height=\"531\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There are some waterfalls down in that canyon. It&#8217;s rugged terrain down there and the falls are inaccessible. However in the summer of 1963, a subcommittee of the Oregon Geographic Names Board made a trek here and somehow managed to get down to those falls. (Read more about it <a href=\"http:\/\/www.splintercat.org\/SalmonRiver\/Sept63Index.html\">here<\/a>.) Final Falls:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.splintercat.org\/SalmonRiver\/Sept63ExpeditionPage1.html\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.splintercat.org\/SalmonRiver\/SalmonRiverWebImages\/Sept63Expedition\/Sept63FinalFalls.JPG\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Frustration Falls:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.splintercat.org\/SalmonRiver\/Sept63ExpeditionPage7.html\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.splintercat.org\/SalmonRiver\/SalmonRiverWebImages\/Sept63Expedition\/Sept63Frustration4.JPG\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A few years ago some kayakers ran the canyon and Oregon Field Guide set them up with cameras to film the expedition.
