{"id":4741,"date":"2023-06-27T19:10:07","date_gmt":"2023-06-27T19:10:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cherylhill.net\/blog\/?p=4741"},"modified":"2023-06-28T19:26:53","modified_gmt":"2023-06-28T19:26:53","slug":"zumwalt-prairie","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/cherylhill.net\/blog\/2023\/06\/27\/zumwalt-prairie\/","title":{"rendered":"Zumwalt Prairie"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Monday, June 19, 2023<\/p>\n<p>During a trip to northeast Oregon I visited the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.org\/en-us\/get-involved\/how-to-help\/places-we-protect\/zumwalt-prairie\/\">Zumwalt Prairie Preserve<\/a>, a Nature Conservancy property.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The weather felt just like home on the other side of the state: overcast skies with low gray clouds and no sun in sight. I parked at the Duckett Barn:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/53001385535_33e2b04342_c.jpg\" alt=\"Zumwalt Prairie\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Then I set off on the loop hike on Patti&#8217;s Trail:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/53001478533_e3dbf2cc02_c.jpg\" alt=\"Zumwalt Prairie\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Shortly I reached the start of the loop and headed to the right:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/53001479413_e0b5f3cc93_c.jpg\" alt=\"Zumwalt Prairie\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Several spots along this trail require getting over fences via these step-ladder things:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/53001005881_6af84b9abd_c.jpg\" alt=\"Zumwalt Prairie\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There were numerous wildflowers blooming along this trail:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/53000798621_0477033760_c.jpg\" alt=\"Zumwalt Prairie\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/53001039309_d93007f0d3_c.jpg\" alt=\"Zumwalt Prairie\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/53001006361_a279f6ed6d_c.jpg\" alt=\"Zumwalt Prairie\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/53001268820_0989b849a9_c.jpg\" alt=\"Zumwalt Prairie\" width=\"533\" height=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/53001006466_8d49b7d720_c.jpg\" alt=\"Zumwalt Prairie\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/53000883571_1228c347ac_c.jpg\" alt=\"Zumwalt Prairie\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p>One of the most abundant wildflowers was prairie smoke, which has a very different (and cool) look when it goes to seed. Fortunately it&#8217;s difficult to get lost out here, and it was easy enough to navigate my way back to the car.<\/p>\n<p>The Nature Conservancy says this is a 1.9 mile hike and Gaia measured it at 1.7.<\/p>\n<p>Beautiful area!
