St. Helens weekend was the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wta.org\/go-hiking\/hikes\/plains-of-abraham-windy-pass-loop\">Plains of Abraham loop<\/a>.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>We drove out Road 99 to its end at Windy Ridge. junction where the Abraham Trail heads off to the left, which you see in the photo below:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" environments, even though it&#8217;s been 42 years since the eruption:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52228633474_b94c025783_c.jpg\" alt=\"Plains of Abraham Hike\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We reached the junction with the Loowit Trail and turned left:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52228843515_3140d97ff3_c.jpg\" alt=\"Plains of Abraham Hike\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This is the closest I&#8217;ve ever been to the height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This section required a bit of route-fiding:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52228370483_c472057e48_c.jpg\" alt=\"Plains of Abraham Hike\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Then we climbed up this very section of trail to the pass:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We reached Windy Pass, then descended down the other side. This trail was very narrow and sandy. Unfortunately they don&#8217;t always stay on trail. A parting shot of Mt.
