{"id":3571,"date":"2020-12-27T15:34:00","date_gmt":"2020-12-27T15:34:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cherylhill.net\/blog\/?p=3571"},"modified":"2021-01-13T23:57:44","modified_gmt":"2021-01-13T23:57:44","slug":"natural-bridges-and-sleeping-beauty","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/cherylhill.net\/blog\/2020\/12\/27\/natural-bridges-and-sleeping-beauty\/","title":{"rendered":"Natural Bridges and Sleeping Beauty"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Saturday, October 31, 2020<\/p>\n<p>Today we headed up into the Gifford Pinchot National Forest for several short hikes north of Trout Lake: Natural Bridges, Sleeping Beauty, and Steamboat Mountain. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Our first stop was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oregonhikers.org\/field_guide\/Natural_Bridges_Hike\">Natural Bridges<\/a>. This is a neat site where you can see an old lava tube from lava flows 12,000-18,000 years ago. According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fs.usda.gov\/recarea\/giffordpinchot\/recarea\/?recid=31918\">Forest Service<\/a> &#8220;Rock work in the walls along this section was done by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s.&#8221; It was pretty impressive:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/50715747363_375b92a79d_c.jpg\" alt=\"Sleeping Beauty hike\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/50715746158_1932689a48_c.jpg\" alt=\"Sleeping Beauty hike\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/50733425172_ae1c2cb475_c.jpg\" alt=\"Stone work\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Sleeping Beauty was once the site of a fire lookout.
