{"id":2989,"date":"2019-09-12T20:05:14","date_gmt":"2019-09-12T20:05:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cherylhill.net\/blog\/?p=2989"},"modified":"2020-05-02T20:42:34","modified_gmt":"2020-05-02T20:42:34","slug":"lowder-mountain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/cherylhill.net\/blog\/2019\/09\/12\/lowder-mountain\/","title":{"rendered":"Lowder Mountain"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Monday, September 2, 2019<\/p>\n<p>After our <a href=\"http:\/\/cherylhill.net\/firelookouts\/2019\/09\/10\/return-to-indian-ridge\/\">stay at the nearby Indian Ridge Lookout<\/a> we decided to do the hike up to Lowder Mountain before driving home. <!--more-->We drove up Road 1993 to the trailhead where there was only one other car, and set off on our hike:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/48700957216_affb323158_c.jpg\" alt=\"Lowder Mountain\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/48701147837_1c8c4f966e_c.jpg\" alt=\"Lowder Mountain\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Much of this hike is in the forest and there isn&#8217;t a lot to see:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/48701148712_5693b2124c_c.jpg\" alt=\"Lowder Mountain\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Pearly everlasting:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/48700975391_8d89e33fa9_c.jpg\" alt=\"Lowder Mountain\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We passed a side trail to rocky cliff area, but the trees were tall and there were no views:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/48700621948_9916643f9d_c.jpg\" alt=\"Lowder Mountain\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We reached a junction in a meadow. The Lowder Trail continues another eight miles down to Road 500 at Cougar Reservoir, but the Forest Service has abandoned that section and no longer maintains it. We turned right onto the Walker Creek Trail:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/48701145142_898e492756_c.jpg\" alt=\"Lowder Mountain\" width=\"534\" height=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The summit area of Lowder Mountain is a broad flat area:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/48700972526_0891cf8844_c.jpg\" alt=\"Lowder Mountain\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/48700634468_a5b252170a_c.jpg\" alt=\"Lowder Mountain\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We reached this large meadow:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/48700623068_4bb1c028fa_c.jpg\" alt=\"Lowder Mountain\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When the trail reaches the tall forest the Walker Creek Trail continues another five miles down to a road. This section too has been abandoned. It&#8217;s actually hard to spot. The user trail that heads off to the viewpoint is easy to follow, though. Jefferson, Three Fingered Jack, and Mt. Jefferson and Three Fingered Jack (if you look closely at far left you can see distant Mt.
