{"id":2672,"date":"2019-01-16T20:13:16","date_gmt":"2019-01-16T20:13:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/old.cherylhill.net\/blog\/?p=2672"},"modified":"2019-02-26T16:21:13","modified_gmt":"2019-02-26T16:21:13","slug":"tumalo-mountain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/cherylhill.net\/blog\/2019\/01\/16\/tumalo-mountain\/","title":{"rendered":"Tumalo Mountain"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>December 31, 2018<\/p>\n<p>On New Year&#8217;s Even Greg and I snowshoed up Tumalo Mountain and were treated to some nice views!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7840\/45992597554_a6d4b15f63_k.jpg\" alt=\"Tumalo Mountain\" width=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Once again we started off the morning with breakfast at Sparrow Bakery:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7813\/31780026517_df8ea7d48a_k.jpg\" alt=\"Sparrow Bakery\" width=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Dutchman Flat Sno-Park doesn&#8217;t have anywhere near enough parking available. Even though we arrived at 8:20am we got one of the last parking spots:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.staticflickr.com\/4821\/31691466257_dcbd182a79_k.jpg\" alt=\"Dutchman Flat Sno-Park\" width=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Mt. Bachelor was hiding in the clouds:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.staticflickr.com\/4858\/46580382002_cc93e64226_k.jpg\" alt=\"Mt. Bachelor barely visible:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7823\/39672449183_a30584ab01_k.jpg\" alt=\"Tumalo Mountain\" width=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Now Mt. Bachelor is totally obscured:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.staticflickr.com\/4859\/32765547538_74c5d0ada8_k.jpg\" alt=\"Cloudy day\" width=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The clouds swirled around us and occasionally we got glimpses beyond our mountain:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.staticflickr.com\/4902\/39675293143_57ffa537dc_k.jpg\" alt=\"We can see!\" width=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.staticflickr.com\/4874\/45749436695_223fdab6ab_k.jpg\" alt=\"Tumalo Mountain\" width=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<p>But when we got to the top of Tumalo Mountain we had no views. The snow was sculpted by the wind that blasted the summit area:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7902\/46664388041_81655c33c4_k.jpg\" alt=\"Tumalo Mountain\" width=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7830\/31723469067_9c602fc25e_k.jpg\" alt=\"Tumalo Mountain\" width=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Due to the lack of views and the cold wind we didn&#8217;t linger up there and started heading back down:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.staticflickr.com\/4814\/31761259367_cdc4f33dd8_k.jpg\" alt=\"Tumalo Mountain\" width=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Fortunately, the clouds started clearing out while we were still in the open area up top and we did end up getting some views. Mt. Bachelor:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7895\/46662388752_480b2134c3_k.jpg\" alt=\"Mt. Bachelor\" width=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<p>South Sister showed itself:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7889\/46715207481_e087811ee4_k.jpg\" alt=\"South Sister\" width=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We went off-trail a short ways to get a better view north into the Three Sisters Wilderness where we could see the Three Sisters and Broken Top. Nice!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7902\/39751759773_177ec5a8f2_k.jpg\" alt=\"Three Sisters\" width=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The clearing continued and I enjoyed seeing the icy snowy trees set against the deep blue sky as we snowshoed down:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.staticflickr.com\/4895\/46667536782_98cf0dcffb_k.jpg\" alt=\"Tumalo Mountain\" width=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.staticflickr.com\/4907\/46720282431_4db343fe51_k.jpg\" alt=\"Tumalo Mountain\" width=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7896\/46721378501_8b921068c5_k.jpg\" alt=\"Tumalo Mountain\" width=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It was 21 degrees when we got back to the car at 12:30.
