We drove down Friday in the POURING rain, and since the weather was so abysmal we did a fun indoor activity: wine-tasting! We visited three tasting rooms in the little town of Elkton, which I visited on a much nicer day back in 2012:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8026\/7603839526_31dd865d3b_c.jpg\" alt=\"Welcome to Elkton\" width=\"800\" height=\"351\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We drove on, stopping at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blm.gov\/visit\/dean-creek-elk-viewing-area\">Dean Creek Elk Viewing Area<\/a>. Simpson built a mansion here in 1907. It burned down in 1921, was rebuilt in 1928, and then the property was sold to the state in 1942. The second mansion was razed in 1948. This observatory now sits on the site. It has nice views and interpretive signs explaining the history and geology of this place:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.staticflickr.com\/4870\/46126741782_ffe8b88b22_c.jpg\" alt=\"Shore Acres State Park\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.staticflickr.com\/4845\/32360305538_be7df5f98e_c.jpg\" alt=\"Shore Acres State Park\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Looking north from the Observatory. We walked down a short trail to see the sea lions.
